Ocean View Cottages
Ocean View Cottages are a collection of three holiday units set in beautiful gardens in Oneroa, with views of the sea, walking distance to three beaches, and close to bus routes, shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, etc.
We are in the process of renovating the three units, and they are currently available at bargain rates until the work has been completed.
The main house, 'Blue View Cottage' is a 1970s home with spacious living accommodation, comprising a huge queen bedroom, open plan living and dining, large kitchen, sunroom, and decks. It looks over the sea, with views towards the city lights of Auckland.
Currently the cottage is dated, with original 1970s kitchen and bathroom fittings, and old fashioned carpet and light fittings,
However, during 2010, we plan to give it a new kitchen (with dishwasher) and bathroom, polished wooden floors, a sofa bed, to allow extra guests, and a simple, modern look with an 'Island' theme. Blue View sleeps two comfortably, or will sleep 4 using the sofa bed.
'Peek of Blue' Bach is the original 1940s bach, to the rear of the property. It has a large queen bedroom, a basic kitchen, and currently a separate lounge. The kitchen has a peek of the sea, and is equipped with a fridge-freezer, a full oven, microwave etc, but is well overdue for replacing with modern cabinets, oven, dishwasher etc. Currently the kitchen floor consists of peeling vinyl tiles - dealing with these will be one of our first priorities.
The living area is separate, but we plan to open up the wall between it and the kitchen and create a large open plan space with polished wooden floors. As with Blue View, we plan a simple, modern design, with Island styled decor.
There is a private deck, overlooking fruit and native trees.
The bathroom is currently a collection of wonky spaces with shower, vanity and toilet all functioning but extremely inelegant. We plan to completely rebuild and enlarge this space.
Peak of Blue sleeps two comfortably, or will eventually sleep 4 with the addition of a sofa bed.
Beneath Blue View Cottage is the Starfish Apartment, with a twin bedroom. Currently there is also a huge laundry area with a toilet cubicle and a hand basin. We have drawn up plans to convert this space into an en-suite bathroom and a kitchenette with dining area.
Starfish Apartment sleeps two. It has no internal access to the cottage, and is not yet self contained.
It is suitable as extra accommodation for either Blue View Cottage, or Peek of Blue Bach, or all three can be rented together by larger groups of 6-10.
Outside, there is plenty of off-street parking for cars and boats, and a barbeque. Each unit has aluminium deck furniture, which can easily be moved around to other units for bigger groups. The dining table in Blue View seats 6 easily, and we might be replacing it with an eight-seater, so larger groups in the three units, can eat together in comfort. The gardens have a good sized lawn to the front and the rear, plentiful fruit trees, beautiful roses and hibiscus, and a secret track that kids will love. We plan to fence the garden, and make it suitable for pets, -but please discuss with us before arranging to bring your pets to stay in Ocean View Cottages.
Oneroa, Little Oneroa, and Blackpool beaches are only a short walk away. Oneroa and Little Oneroa are North facing white sandy bays, whereas Blackpool is South facing, flatter, and popular with wild life.
A bus stop is close, and Oneroa shops, restaurants, post office, banks, cinema, art gallery are a couple of hundred metres down the road.
Matiatia Wharf, where passenger ferries arrive from Auckland is less than five minutes drive away, and easily accessed by bus; or a reasonable walk for the fit.
